RSA Gets Involved in Skyway Stage 3, TRB Mess
Bring out the popcorn, because the saga between the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) and Skyway Stage 3 project is not over.
Last night, in a surprising 11th hour move, San Miguel Corporation announced that its elevated 18.83-kilometer Skyway Stage 3 will be closed “indefinitely” starting today, March 16, 2021 at 5 PM.
The closure, announced on Twitter, contained little details except that SMC will re-open the Skyway Stage 3 once all ramps have been completed.
According to the TRB, the Skyway Stage 3 is currently 92.14 percent completed.
This morning, the TRB denies that it issued any directive to close Skyway Stage 3. In a short statement, they said:
“The position of the TRB and its management is to keep Skyway Stage 3 open for the benefit of all motorists.”After this statement was issued, SMC Chief executive Ramon S. Ang said the company “will ask TRB” for clarification.
The Skyway Stage 3 was formally opened to the public last January 14, 2021. It’s currently free while its operator, SMC seeks to have its proposed toll rates approved by the TRB.
