Manny Piñol Lectures JC Punongbayan for Claiming PH is Not An Agricultural Country

Former Agriculture Secretary and newly installed Food Security Adviser Manny Piñol lectured veteran political analyst and self-proclaimed economist JC Punongbayan who claimed earlier that the Philippines is no longer an agricultural country based on the data he obtained so far.

According to the veteran farmer who worked as Agriculture Secretary and the head of Mindanao Development Authority, Agriculture is indeed the backbone of the Philippine economy.

Manny Piñol even noted that if only we had less swivel-chair economic experts and planners, our country would have prospered a long time ago.

The statement of the veteran farmer and prominent political analyst, JC Punongbayan's claimed ridiculing those who are saying that the Philippines is an agricultural country citing alleged miniscule contributions to Gross Domestic Product is the reasons why we have a failure in terms of agricultural policies and given also a miniscule budget.

The likes of Punongbayan, who are considered as self-proclaimed economists and experts are the reasons behind the country's failure in agriculture. The mere 9.5% contribution of the agriculture sector to the Philippine economy is an evidence of this kind of thinking by economic managers.

Manny then lectured JC Punongbayan by defining first the meaning of Agriculture. The first big mistakes of the economic planners in the country is their limited understanding of the definition of Agriculture to raw materials productions.

Those are just some few examples of agriculture industry wherein most economists perceived as not part of the agriculture sectors.

Agriculture's contribution to the GDP should not be quantified through the mere value of the raw materials produced by farmers and fishermen.

Read the Complete Statement of Manny Piñol:

Mali ka, JC!

Agriculture Is The Backbone

Of The Philippine Economy

If only we had less swivel-chair economic experts and planners, our country would have prospered a long time ago.

Self-proclaimed economic expert JC Punongbayan ridiculed those who say that the Philippines is an agricultural country citing its alleged minuscule contribution to GDP.

So, Agriculture's contribution to the GDP is a measly 9.5%?

Teka muna. Let us first define Agriculture.

Agriculture's contribution to the GDP should not be quantified through the mere value of the raw materials produced by farmers and fishermen.

It should include the whole value chain, from the jobs created in the production and processing, to the people involved in the distribution and marketing and even the businesses which offer food.

Looking backward, why do industrial companies manufacture tractors and farm implements?

They were made for agriculture, idiots!

The Philippines is an Agricultural country. That's a fact.

It is more than just the 9.5% GDP contribution that you cited.

See The Real World!
